This institution began with a letter of invitation issued in 1950 by the Bishop of Pune, His Lordship Bishop Andrew D’Souza. The Sun rises daily. But on 9thMarch 1950, it seemed to sparkle. It was a New Dawn, for the Sisters of the Third Apostolic Of Our Lady of Mount Carmel of Trivandrum. For it was on this day the Sisters first touched the soil of Ahmednagar. The Pioneers, Sr. Mary Alexis, Mary Lucilla, Mary Victoria and Mary Leonie arrived in Ahmednagar with enthusiasm to fulfil their vision of setting an educational institution.
In 1956, two sheds, the ground floor of the school and the Sisters quarters were completed. It was in 1957 that Sacred Heart Convent with great pride sent its first Batch of students for the SSC Board Examination! In 1964 Bishop Schroffer of Eichstatt blessed the site and by 1972 the present structure of the building was completed.
In 1975, the school celebrated its Silver Jubilee. The jubilee chorus ‘Noble Truth’ composed by Fr. P Mendonca S.J. was adopted. The Silver Jubilee in 1975 was the First Milestone in the History of Sacred Heart Convent – Ahmednagar
1976 saw the beginning of the second phase of development of Sacred Heart Convent. The school was growing from strength to strength under the able guidance of Sr. Victorine who was a strict disciplinarian. The school now aimed at the all-round development of the students. Hence by 1979, the school curriculum included various extracurricular activities such as guides, scouts, sports, music, elocution, drama, debate and the like.
The new ‘Primary Wing’ was ready for use by June ’97.
The students brought many laurels at the District, State and National Levels in Science, Maths, Drawing, Essay-Writing, Sports and Martial Arts. With the turn of the century, the school not only stepped into the new millennium but also celebrated its Golden Jubilee.
Today Sacred Heart Convent School stands tall with the strength of nearly 5000 students in its grandeur.
Let God be praised!
